Farewell Gathering for Dr. Ma Ziyan and Mr. Kaito Serizawa

We held a farewell gathering for Dr. Ma Ziyan, who served as a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor, and Mr. Kaito Serizawa, who worked with us as a research staff member.

■ Specially Appointed Assistant Professor — Dr. Ma Ziyan

Dr. Ma joined our laboratory as a doctoral student and has been an integral member for many years. Specializing in ophthalmology and neuroscience, she has devoted herself to the study of neural regulatory mechanisms involved in choroidal function and refractive development.

In particular, her work elucidated how parasympathetic pathways centered on the superior salivatory nucleus (SSN) influence choroidal thickness and ocular growth, using optogenetic, chemogenetic, and genetic ablation models. Her findings have significantly contributed to the understanding of how the central autonomic nervous system actively regulates refractive development and plays a role in the onset of myopia.

After completing her Ph.D., she continued to support our laboratory as a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor. With her warm personality and positive presence, she contributed not only to research activities but also to student guidance and laboratory management.

We express our deep gratitude for her dedication and invaluable contributions, and we sincerely wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.

■ Research Staff (Dispatched) — Mr. Kaito Serizawa

Mr. Serizawa worked with us as a dispatched research staff member and contributed greatly to the Restore Vision Inc. project through his daily support in experiments and research-related tasks.

His careful and sincere approach to work played an important role in advancing the project and supporting our research activities.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation for his many contributions and wish him continued success and good health in the future.
